Branion AEM 50

Branion AEM 50 is a NovaMea non-reinforced anion exchange membrane with a nominal thickness of 50 microns, designed for low-resistance alkaline electrochemical applications. The product page positions it for AEM water electrolysis, alkaline electrochemical cells and other hydroxide-ion conducting systems.

The membrane uses a proprietary hydrocarbon-based polymer backbone, with high OH- conductivity, strong mechanical stability and chemical resistance in acidic and basic environments. It also provides resistance to common alcohol and ketone solvents such as ethanol, isopropanol, acetone and butanol.

It is supplied dry between a backing and cover foil. For OH- conducting applications, including AEM water electrolysis, the source recommends prior conversion to OH- form and minimal exposure to ambient air after ion exchange, since CO2 can convert the membrane to bicarbonate form.
