KF-18/2B and KF-24/6B Cold Traps for 6 or 25 l/min Gas Streams

Reference: KF-18/2B / KF-24/6B - Manufacturer: WALZ

Compact WALZ chlorophyll fluorometers for photosynthetic measurement, teaching, and plant physiological analysis in laboratory environments.

General Features of KF-18/2B and KF-24/6B

Thanks to powerful Peltier coolers, the cold traps can achieve temperature differences of more than 30 K compared to ambient temperature.

The KF-24/6B can also be operated with a liquid cooling circuit for even larger temperature gradients. It also provides highly accurate dew point adjustment with 0.1 °C resolution.

Both models have one gas path. The main difference is the maximum flow rate:

  • KF-18/2B: up to 6 l/min

  • KF-24/6B: up to 25 l/min

Lower temperature gradients allow higher flow rates, while lower flow rates can achieve higher temperature gradients.

Compact chlorophyll fluorometers for teaching and research

The KF-18/2B and KF-24/6B models from WALZ are compact chlorophyll fluorometers developed for precise and rapid fluorescence measurements in teaching, experimentation, and plant physiological analysis. Their compact format supports integration into educational laboratories and research environments where reliable and manageable instrumentation is required.

These instruments make it possible to work with chlorophyll fluorescence as a tool for evaluating photosynthetic processes and physiological responses. WALZ positions this range for users who need robust instruments for laboratory assays and controlled observation of parameters related to photosynthetic activity.

Usefulness for photosynthetic analysis

The KF family is designed to facilitate fluorescence data acquisition and support analysis of plant physiological behavior. Their compact construction and instrument-focused approach make them suitable for teaching exercises, comparative assays, and technical demonstration activities.

Using chlorophyll fluorometers in this format helps explain principles of photosynthesis, plant tissue response, and optical measurement techniques in training programs and specialized laboratories.

Application in laboratories and technical education

The KF-18/2B and KF-24/6B are suitable for universities, technical colleges, plant biology departments, and physiological analysis laboratories requiring compact equipment to introduce or reinforce topics related to chlorophyll fluorescence and photosynthetic measurement.

Specifications

Cold traps can be easily integrated into existing pneumatic systems. They are suitable for applications requiring precise gas humidity control, especially in calibration, analysis, and plant gas-exchange measurements.

Main applications:

  • Calibration of humidity sensors, including capacitive humidity sensors and dew point mirror systems.
  • Calibration of infrared H₂O gas analyzers.
  • Generation of gas with defined humidity conditions for the inlet flow of gas-exchange chambers.
  • Integration into bypass humidity control systems to prevent humidity increases caused by transpiration in large gas-exchange measuring chambers.

Internal Software for TR-KF-6 and TR-KF-24

The TR-KF-6 and TR-KF-24 temperature controllers are operated using the TR-KF software, available for Windows PCs.

The software clearly displays the set temperature, actual temperature, and operating status of the instrument. Freely adjustable charts allow users to monitor the time course of both the set value and the measured temperature.

Two temperature control modes are available:

  • Control to a defined set temperature.
  • Control via an external signal.

The software also allows the user to define how the instrument should resume operation after a power interruption.

Custom software functions can be integrated upon request.
