General

The EMS DRS26 is a digital sensor manufactured by EMS Brno for precise monitoring of trunk circumference increment in large trees. It is intended for research and field monitoring applications where stable, repeatable and low-maintenance measurements are required.

The tape fixing is non-invasive and has no effect on tree growth. The instrument has no upper limit in stem diameter and provides an integrated value for the whole radial profile at the measured height. The thermal expansion of wood and stainless steel is almost identical, which helps maintain stable outdoor measurements.

The DRS26 delivers precise increment records and is an efficient tool for studies of growth, water stress and trunk freezing. Together with soil water potential measurement, it provides a realistic picture of drought stress and tree response.

The SDI-12 output uses the asynchronous serial communications protocol for intelligent microprocessor-based sensors. The sensor takes a measurement, performs the required computation and outputs the measured data in engineering units, while allowing multiple sensors to be connected serially on one cable line.

Trees with different diameters can be measured simply by changing the base plate. The sensor is compatible with dataloggers such as the MicroLog SDI-MP, GreyBox N2N and GreyBox GSM custom tailored.
