New

Multi-Cultivator MC-1000-OD is designed for small-scale detection experiments of phototrophic organisms such as algae, cyanobacteria, and plant cells.
Also other microorganisms, for example heterotrophic bacteria and yeasts grown in suspension, can enjoy this type of grower.
The special design of the instrument allows rapid comparative studies of various organisms, mutants or culture conditions.

Culture vessels
8 round glass test tubes, each holding approx. 80 ml of cultured suspension. The diameter of the tube is 27 mm.
Inert silicone plug with aeration inlet and waste outlet.
Glass aeration tubes (standard) or stainless steel aeration tubes (optional) that are easier and safer to handle.
Autoclavable design.
Humidifier to moisten the bubbling air to prevent increased evaporation of the medium from the test tubes.
Three-way sampling valve (optional) for sampling cultures through the aeration tube. Not autoclavable.
Glass test tubes Glass test tubes Inert silicone stopper Inert silicone stopper Three-way sampling valve Three-way sampling valve.

Thermoregulation
Thermostatted water bath with nesting of 8 test tubes.
Temperature range:
• ca. 5 to 10 ° C above ambient temperature (depending on light intensity) up to 60 ° C (standard);
• 15 - 60 ° C with the AC-710 Cooling Unit (optional).

The homogeneous temperature between all the tubes and also in their vertical profile is ensured by immersing all the tubes in the water bath and by a sufficient water mixture.
PWM pump for automatic filling of water in the thermostatted water bath during high-temperature or long-term cultivation (optional).

illumination
Led technology.
Illumination can be adjusted independently for each test tube in intensity, timing and modulation.
Illumination up to 1,000 µmol.m-2.s-1 (optionally up to 2,500 µmol.m-2.s-1 with Light Upgrade - only for white versions).
Single color version: cool white (standard); warm white, 450, 475, 530, 615, 660, 730 nm (optional)
Multicolor version (single color slots): 405, 450, 475, warm white, 530, 615, 660, 730 nm. Intensity: up to 1,000 µmol.m-2.s-1
Mixed color version (mixed color slots): 405, 450, 475, warm white, 530, 615, 660, 730 nm. Intensity: up to 2,500 µmol.m-2.s-1, that is to say around 300 µmol.m-2.s-1 per color per slot. The warm white color is represented by two LED circuits and therefore the warm white intensity rises to 600 µmol.m-2.s-1 per color per slot.
Constant light conditions or the alternation of several cycles of light and dark.
The duration of individual cycles: from minutes to days.
The mode of the light cycles: constant, linear increase or decrease, sinusoid mode for simple imitation of daytime rhythms. In addition, the java script is embedded in the photobioreactor control software (advanced version, optional) for the creation of advanced light protocols (eg automatic adjustment of light intensity based on actual biomass concentration).
Protective front cover that prevents cultured samples from being influenced by unwanted external light (sun, etc.).

NOTE: The lights are calibrated with a spherical sensor that is placed in the upper third of the test tube right in the middle. The light path of the test tube is 27 mm.

Aeration system
The aeration system provides sufficient mixing and also air / CO2 supply to the crops throughout the entire water column.
The air source: a small aeration pump that provides a total air flow of around 1,100 ml / min.
Manually adjustable valve manifold that distributes air into individual test tubes.
Glass aeration tubes (standard) or stainless steel aeration tubes (optional) that are easier and safer to handle.
Aeration is automatically interrupted during OD measurement to avoid interference of aeration bubbles with OD measurement. The built-in back pressure valve facilitates the release of residual air from the system.
Built-in module for the connection of compressed air / gas through Parker Prestolok connector (6 mm).
Optionally, the multicultivator can be connected to the GMS 150 gas mixing system which provides a precise concentration and flow of the required gases. For more information, see our GMS 150 Gas Mixing System website.

DO monitoring
OD 680 and 720 nm are measured automatically and independently for each test tube.
The optical path of the measurement is 27 mm.
OD 720 measures light scattering in particles and can serve as an indicator of biomass growth, while OD 680 is related to chlorophyll uptake and can be used to estimate chlorophyll concentration.
The optical density is measured periodically and the data is stored in the internal memory of the Multi-Grower. Stored data can later be downloaded to a PC and displayed in graphs or exported to TXT or Excel files through the provided OD View program.

In addition, the photobioreactor control software (optional) allows remote online viewing of recorded data in real time. The software allows you to fit the OD data with the various regression functions to facilitate the evaluation of the real growth rate.

Turbidostatic culture
Turbidostatic module (optional): controls the biomass concentration (turbidity) through OD 680 or OD 720 in each container independently. The DO can be kept at a constant level or within a preset range depending on the experimental objective.
Special silicone plug
rs with an additional port for the entered media.

The flow rate of the peristaltic pump that feeds the medium is 0.2 to 50 ml / min and is adjustable for each test vessel independently. A single medium tank can be used for all culture vessels.
The culture volume is kept constant by an overflow of passive medium.
The module includes its own aeration pump which is more powerful compared to the standard air pump and thus can provide enough power to aerate the entire system properly.
The photobioreactor control software must be ordered to operate the turbidostatic module.

Photobioreactor control software
Optionally, the entire Multi-Cultivator system and all its cultivation and monitoring functions (light, temperature, optical density, turbidostatic culture, and aeration gas) can be controlled through the photobioreactor control software. The control software provides an intuitive and dynamic interface for online monitoring and visualization of all measured data, as well as the creation of user-defined protocols. For more details, see our website on photobioreactor control software.
